Project Description: Statements of Qualifications submittals are hereby solicited by the University of California, Santa Barbara (“University”) from design professionals/engineers and firms with relevant experience and expertise in providing the services described herein. The selected Consultant will provide design services associated with the Marine Biotech Lab Mechanical Renewal and Renovation project (the “Project”), as more fully described in this Request for Qualifications (No. FM220351). The Project includes construction phases and sequencing extending beyond a basic mechanical replacement in an occupied research building, and will include the renewal and renovation of the HVAC system for Building 555 – a 25,000 SF structure built in 1963, with an extension constructed in 1986, and located at Campus Point on the main campus of the University. The Project includes phased lab renovation/construction, the provision of temporary trailers for instruction and research, environmental rooms, new HVAC equipment, and duct replacement.

Estimated Construction Cost: The overall construction budget is approximately $6,700,000.00

Scope of Services: The scope of services may require the selected Consultant to conduct a building survey, review all relevant background reports provided by the University for Building 555, and provide architectural and mechanical design services. It is essential that the Principal Architect and Mechanical Engineer are in sync with the University’s goal of successfully constructing the project, and the Consultant’s team will be required to develop a proactive and detailed approach to resolving the construction sequencing challenges associated with the Project. The scope of services for the Project will include planning, cost/feasibility analyses, architectural and mechanical design, cost estimating, code analysis, project scheduling, and coordination with building personnel and other stakeholders, culminating in the selected Consultant’s development of Construction Documents, and construction administration services to include submittal reviews, RFI, bulletins, field representation, and final closeout.
