Background and Introduction: Qualifications submittals are hereby solicited by The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB or University) from qualified individuals and firms for the provision of testing and inspection services, as described more fully under RFQ No. FM210080.

The University is embarking on the construction of new Classroom Building Classroom provides approximately 51,000 assignable-square-feet (ASF), 95,250 gross-square-feet (GSF) of new space to expand the campus’s general assignment classroom inventory. As currently envisioned, the space program includes 28 classrooms comprised of 5 traditional lecture halls, 3 active learning teaching classrooms, and 20 flexible discussion classrooms providing a total of approximately 2,000 seats. The additional inventory and capacity will reduce dependency on assembly rooms and event space on campus.

The building design massing is composed of two rectilinear structures connected by two bridges with communicating stair systems and two- elevator group. The two masses are offset by the longer, four-story north wing and the shorter three-story south wing. The wings are connected by bridges at the second and third levels, span a “street-like” pedestrian corridor below, and provide circulation space necessary for class queuing and general circulation. At its highest point, the Classroom Building is approximately 83.5 feet to the top of the mechanical penthouse on the four-story north wing.

Construction Budget and Schedule: The construction budget is approximately $69,500,000., and the planned date for start of construction is October 7, 2020 with an anticipated completion of construction date in December of 2022.

Scope of Services: Testing and Inspection is to be performed as directed by the University’s Representative and in coordination with the construction contract schedule. The construction contract schedule may include both day and night time construction activities. Inspections will be required during both periods throughout construction. Responsibilities and services may include but are not limited to the following:

Soils Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Soil Investigation, Foundation Investigation, Sewage Disposal Investigation, Various Sampling, Aggregate, Asphalt, Concrete, Concrete & Masonry Coring, Masonry Block & Veneered Stone, Steel, Fireproofing, Welding Inspections and required Certifications, Piping Inspections and required Certifications, and other related services.

SOQ Deadline: An electronic copy of your firm’s submittal in .pdf format must be returned to the University as described in the RFQ by 4:00 p.m. on September 25, 2020.
