Description of Work: Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and services, and specified materials to expansion of the existing mosquito laboratory and new mechanical equipment on the roof of the 7th floor of the Biology II Building (Building 571) on the University of California, Santa Barbara (“UCSB”) main campus, as specified in the Construction Documents.
The total project area is +/- 925 SF, but the project is divided into several smaller spaces including:
a. A 155 SF mosquito environmental chamber engineered, fabricated, and installed by a 3rd party (# 7165a), with HVAC, plumbing, lighting, elec./data receptacles, shelving, and wall, ceiling, floor finishes by the contractor. Equipment serving the chamber will be installed on the roof area adjacent to the exterior wall of the building. A new condensing unit to be strapped to the ext. Wall, and wall mounted shelves for a humidifier and reverse osmosis water filtration system.
b. A 310 SF expansion to the (E) Mosquito lab (# 7169) which includes HVAC modifications, elec./data receptacles, new laboratory piped services, a re-located emergency eye wash / safety shower, wall-mounted cylinder tank restraints, and new doors.
c. A 410 SF surgery suite w/ a separate ante room (# 7168) and procedure room (# 7168a). The ante room will receive a new partition, re-located door, new switching to (e) lighting, power / data raceway. The procedure room will receive a re-installed entry door w/ re-located card reader, all doors w/ sealed bottoms. An overhead cable tray, power/data raceways, new switching for (e) lighting, patched hard lid ceiling, a new wall-mounted exhaust extractor, piped services, and wall-mounted cylinder restraints.

Pre-Bid Conference: A mandatory Pre-Bid Conference will be conducted BOTH in person AND electronically via Zoom.. Meeting attendees may attend the pre-bid conference and job walk remotely via Zoom, if desired. A subsequent, in-person job walk may be scheduled with the University Representative, upon request. The Only bidders who participate in the (virtual or in-person) pre-bid conference will be allowed to bid on the Project as prime bidders. Only attendees of the original job walk will be permitted to schedule a subsequent site visit with the University Representative.
Bid Security: Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Bid shall accompany each Bid. The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120). If a bid is submitted electronically then a scan copy of the required bid security is acceptable; however, an original, wet-signed copy of that bid security must be delivered to the University within 3 days of the bid deadline date.

The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. No contractor or subcontractor may be listed on a Bid for this project unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 [with limited exceptions from this requirement for bid purposes only under Labor Code section 1771.1(a)]. The successful Bidder and its Subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Construction Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the Work.
