SHORTLISTING - The University's Screening Committee has selected the following design teams for further consideration: (1) EHDD Architecture (San Francisco, CA); (2) HED Design (Los Angeles, CA); (3) HKS Architecture and Safdie Rabines Architects (Los Angeles, CA); and (4) Skidmore Owings Merrill and Mithun (Los Angeles, CA).

Introduction: The University of California, Santa Barbara hereby requests a written response to this Request for Qualifications (“RFQ”) from qualified professionals interested in providing detailed project programming, full design services, preparation of bidding documents, and construction administration services for the construction of the UCSB Student Housing Infill and Redevelopment Project (the “Project”).

Project Description: The Project, if awarded in its entirety, will deliver at least 3,500 undergraduate student beds to the UCSB main campus. Phase 1 of the Project will be located at the current Facilities Management Site, and Phase 1 project services will include the design and construction of a new residential community housing for up to 3,000 students, along with supporting retail dining and recreational amenities, as well as campus circulation improvements. Phase 2 of the Project, if awarded, will be located on the UCSB main campus as part of an East Campus Infill & Redevelopment effort and will add additional beds within an existing community of UCSB residence halls. Phase 2 project services will include the design and construction of new residential community housing.

Design teams or firms with experience in the design and redevelopment of student housing projects similar in scale and scope are encouraged to respond. The Project will be designed to comply with the University of California Policy on Sustainable Practices and be designed to achieve a minimum of a LEED Gold Rating. The complete RFQ will be available at www.ucsbplanroom.com/rfqs on July 25, 2023, and SOQ submittals are due by 4:00 p.m. on August 18, 2023. The consultant selection process will follow relevant UC policy and state law.

Estimated Budget: The projected construction budget for Phases 1 and 2 of the Project is $600M – $750M.
