Description of Work: Provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and logistical services to support (Phase 1) site work associated with the construction of two (2) prefabricated container homes that will serve as staff accommodations at the University’s field station site on Santa Cruz Island. Contractor shall provide the following (Phase 1) services: construction of container home foundations, sitework/grading, septic tank and leach field. Trade work includes earthwork, underground utilities (gas, electric, water, fire suppression) concrete, steel/rebar, and septic system in preparation for future Phase 2 installation and build out of the container homes that will be addressed under a separate competitive bid process for the installation of the container homes, tie-in to utilities, and fit out of the two (2), two-bedroom, two-bathroom, insulated, factory-fabricated container residences. The contractor’s personnel will travel to Santa Cruz Island via boat and then travel overland to the construction site. The successful Contractor will be provided limited access to field station dorms, which include a kitchen (food not provided), bathrooms and sleeping accommodations at no cost to Contractor. Construction Work will begin in the late September 2023 timeframe.
License Requirement(s): A- (General Engineering Contractor) or B- (General Building Contractor)
Estimated Construction Cost (Phase 1): $348,000 (Estimate does not include Phase 2 work or shipping container costs.)
Pre-Bid Conference: A mandatory IN-PERSON Pre-Bid Conference and Pre-Bid Job Walk will be conducted on September 6, 2023 (see attached pre-bid meeting agenda). Participants shall meet at 7:45AM at Island Packers Cruises, located at 1691 Spinnaker Drive #105B, Ventura, CA 93001. Only bidders who participate in the initial pre-bid conference, will be allowed to bid on the Project as a prime bidder. Only attendees as the original pre-bid conference will be permitted to schedule a subsequent site visit with the University Representative.
Bid Security: Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Bid shall accompany each Bid. The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120).
General Project Information: The successful Bidder and its Subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the Work. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons shall have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University's policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. No contractor or subcontractor may be listed on a Bid for this project unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 [with limited exceptions from this requirement for bid purposes only under Labor Code section 1771.1(a)].
