PREQUALIFICATION OF BIDDERS:  Only prequalified PRIME BIDDERS will be allowed to submit a Bid on this project.  The University has determined that bidders who submit a bid on this project must be prequalified, and conducted a prequalification process that resulted in the following firm(s) being prequalified to participate in the forthcoming Best Value competitive bidding/selection process:  Kone, Inc. (Glendale, CA)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

BIO II, BLDG. 571 (“Project A”)

Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and services to construct a elevator modernization within the UCSB Biological Sciences Building 571, a Type II concrete building constructed in 1969. The work includes modernization of the basement and penthouse traction elevator. The freight elevator extends from the first floor to the seventh floor penthouse.  Contractor shall provide replacement of all equipment and controls located in the basement, provide replacement of freight elevator shell with new mechanical operating doors. Provide modernization of passenger traction Elevator #2 extending from basement to the sixth floor and Elevator #1 from the first floor to the sixth floor. Contractor shall replace all interiors, as specified in the Construction Documents.

 BROIDA HALL, BLDG. 572 (“Project B”)

Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and services to construct a elevator modernization within the UCSB Biological Sciences Building 572, a Type II concrete building constructed in 1970. The work includes modernization of the basement and penthouse traction elevator. The freight elevator extends from the first floor to the seventh floor roof penthouse.  Contractor shall provide replacement of all equipment and controls located in the basement, replacement of freight elevator shell with new mechanical operating doors.  Provide modernization of passenger traction Elevator #2 extending from first floor to the sixth floor and Elevator #1 from the basement to the sixth floor. Contractor shall replace all interiors as specified in the Construction Documents.

Project A: Bio II, Bldg. 571 - $2,400,000

Project B: Broida Hall, Bldg. 572 - $2,200,000


Pre-Bid Conference:  A mandatory Pre-Bid Conference and Pre-Bid Job Walk will be conducted BOTH in person AND electronically via Zoom on August 24, 2023 beginning promptly at 10:00AM.  Participants shall meet either:

OR

REMOTELY VIA ZOOM

Meeting attendees may attend the pre-bid conference and job walk remotely via Zoom, if desired.  The Zoom meeting will include a virtual job walk presented by the University staff.  A subsequent, in-person job walk may be scheduled with the University Representative, upon request.  Remote participants may attend the mandatory pre-bid conference via Zoom by using the following link:

Only bidders who participate in the initial (virtual or in-person) pre-bid conference, will be allowed to bid on the Project as a prime bidder. Only attendees as the original pre-bid conference will be permitted to schedule a subsequent site visit with the University Representative.  In person attendees are advised that there may be traffic congestion and parking may be difficult.  Bidders should allow ample time to drive to the above location in heavy traffic, find a parking space, walk to the building, and arrive in the designated meeting room prior to the required time.  Any prospective Bidder arriving after the above designated starting time may be disqualified from submitting a bid for this project.

ADDITIONAL PROJECT INFORMATION

The lowest responsible bidder will be selected by the University on the basis of the Best Value to the University. The Best Value to the University will be determined using objective criteria included in the Construction Documents with the resulting selection representing the best combination of both price and qualifications.

Bid Security: Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Bid shall accompany each Bid.  The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120).

General Project Information: The successful Bidder and its Subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the Work.
