Project Description: Qualifications submittals are hereby solicited by The University of California, Santa Barbara (“UCSB” or “University”) from qualified individuals and firms for the provision of UCSB Music Unit 1 Seismic Improvements Testing & Inspection Services (hereinafter referred to as the “Project”), as described more fully under RFQ No. FM240167. Music Building Unit 1 was originally constructed in 1954 and has received no major upgrades since that time. The Project will reinforce the 40,017 GSF two-story building, with approximately 17,530 assignable SF in the renovation. The upgrade will bring the building’s Seismic Performance Rating from VI to IV, as a part of a campus-wide initiative to bring all structures into compliance with current building code(s). The seismic strengthening work includes the addition of concrete shear walls, shotcrete reinforcement of existing structural elements, associated foundation upgrades, and miscellaneous strengthening of structural elements, including columns and beams. Additional repairs will focus on accessibility upgrades and deferred maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.
The planned date for start of construction is November 1, 2023, with an anticipated completion of construction date on September of 2024.
The estimated construction budget is approximately $11,000,000.
Scope of Services: Testing and Inspection is to be performed in coordination with the construction schedule, which may include both day and night time construction activities. Inspections will be required during both periods throughout construction. Responsibilities and services may include but are not limited to the following: Soils Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Soil Investigation, Foundation Investigation, Various Sampling, Aggregate, Concrete, Concrete & Masonry Coring, Masonry Block & Veneered Block, Steel, Fireproofing, Welding Inspections and required Certifications, Piping Inspections and required Certifications, in addition to the following services:
Geotechnical Engineer Site Visits
Soil Compaction Testing, Maximum Density – Optimum Moisture tests
Reinforcing steel placement inspections
Concrete Placement Inspections, Concrete Cylinders
Grout Placement Inspections, Grout Specimens
Shotcrete Placement Inspection, Shotcrete Test Panels
Field Welding Inspection
Epoxy Dowel Installation Inspection, Tensile Testing
Torque Testing of Post-Installed Wedge and Titen Anchors
Fiberwrap polymer (FRP) Application Inspection, Tensile and Pull Off Testing
Seismic Force Resisting System (SFRS) Installation Inspection, Torque Testing
Providing timely inspections and issuing timely reports for all inspections and tests
