Music Building Unit 1 was originally constructed in 1954 and has received no major upgrades since that time. The Project will reinforce the 40,017 GSF two-story building, with approximately 17,530 assignable SF in the renovation. The upgrade will bring the building’s Seismic Performance Rating from VI to IV, as a part of a campus-wide initiative to bring all structures into compliance with current building code(s).  The seismic strengthening work includes the addition of concrete shear walls, shotcrete reinforcement of existing structural elements, associated foundation upgrades, and miscellaneous strengthening of structural elements, including columns and beams.  Additional repairs will focus on accessibility upgrades and deferred maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.

The planned date for start of construction is November 1, 2023, with an anticipated completion of construction date on September of 2024.

The estimated construction budget is approximately $11,000,000.
