Description of Work: The University of California, Santa Barbara (“University”) is relocating its music library collection from its Music Building to a permanent location on the first floor of the main University Library (Building 525) and to be named the “Sara Miller McCune Arts Library.”  The space allocated for the new music library is approximately 15,000 sf and straddles the original 1953 and 1960 2-story portions of the main library, which were renovated in 2016.  Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and services to construct a newly renovated space on the first floor of the University Library.  Work will consist of selective demolition of existing partitions, ceilings, lighting, and mechanical systems, new doors and wall partitions, ceilings, lighting, mechanical, sprinkler, fire alarm, power outlet distribution, and finishes and fixtures, as described more fully in the Construction Documents.

Only bidders who participate in the initial (virtual or in-person) pre-bid conference, will be allowed to bid on the Project as a prime bidder. Only attendees as the original pre-bid conference will be permitted to schedule a subsequent site visit with the University Representative.

Bid Security: Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Bid shall accompany each Bid.  The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120).

General Project Information: The successful Bidder and its Subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the Work. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons shall have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University's policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy.  The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code.  No contractor or subcontractor may be listed on a Bid for this project unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 [with limited exceptions from this requirement for bid purposes only under Labor Code section 1771.1(a)].
