Summary of Work: Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, insurance, and services for the replacement of the building main service electrical switchgear in the roof penthouse and the renovation of the roof penthouse of the Engineering II building (Building 503) located on the UCSB main campus. The work shall also include new HVAC heat pump units, lighting, room reconfiguration, rooftop upgrades at the new penthouse exit and reconfiguration of the 240V system.
Estimated Construction Cost: $1,950,000 (Estimate does not include UFCI equipment)
License Requirement(s): B – (General Building Contractor) AND C-10 (Electrical Contractor)
Only prequalified general contractors will be allowed to submit a PRIME Bid on this project. The following firms have been prequalified to bid on this project:
1. Plant Construction Company, LP
2. Taft Electric Company
Pre-Bid Conference: A mandatory IN-PERSON Pre-Bid Conference and Pre-Bid Job Walk will be conducted by University staff on August 28, 2025 beginning promptly at 1:30 PM. Only prequalified bidders who participate in the initial pre-bid conference, will be allowed to bid on the Project as a prime bidder. Only attendees at the original pre-bid conference will be permitted to schedule a subsequent site visit with the University Representative.
Bid Security: Bid Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Bid shall accompany each Bid. The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120).
Best Value Selection: The lowest responsible bidder will be selected on the basis of the best value to the University. The objective criteria and methodology used to determine Best Value are described in the Bidding Documents. The best value to the University is the selection resulting in the best combination of price and qualifications
General Project Information: Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons shall have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University's policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. No contractor or subcontractor may be listed on a Bid for this project unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 [with limited exceptions from this requirement for bid purposes only under Labor Code section 1771.1(a)]. The successful Bidder and its Subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Construction Documents and to pay prevailing wage rates at the location of the Work.
